History Of The Church
The Beginning
Pastor Olus R. Holder, Jr., MDiv., founded the Fellowship of Great Expectations Christian Church (GECC) under the guidance of the Holy Spirit in April 2005. After five years of service at Higher Dimension Church in Houston, Texas; Pastor Holder affectionately called Pastor O, stepped out on faith to follow Gods calling to plant a church in Fort Bend County that would seek those who are out of church for whatever reason and those who do not know Christ. The initial Core team for the church consisted of 6 families. Pastor Holder had a vision for a church that would be mission-minded and he modeled this vision by volunteering at Goodman Elementary School in Fresno, Texas and the Second Mile Mission Center in Stafford Texas. Stepping out on faith required that Pastor Holder resume working, and thus he is currently bi-vocational.
Getting Started
In June 2005, the first weekly Tuesday Bible Study commenced in the home of Pastor Olus and Mrs. Nikita Holder in Missouri City, Texas. Pastor Holder baptized our first candidate during the 11:00 a.m. Sunday worship Service at the Fallbrook Church in Houston, TX.
From April to July 2005 the Core Team of Great Expectations Christian Church continued to meet and plan to carry out the mission and vision of the church. We launched our first church website in July 2005. Because an important component of our ministry is to build healthy families, we initiated several small groups to meet the needs of married couples, men and women. Life Time of Commitment (LOC) Marriage Enrichment held the first meeting at The Marriott Town Square in Sugar Land, Texas and meetings every other month on the 2nd Saturday. Our Womens Bible Study Fellowship met every 3rd Friday and Mens Bible Study Fellowship met every 4th Friday in the home of Pastor and Mrs. Holder in Missouri, City, Texas. In addition, we incorporated fellowship by planning periodic times for the Core Team to meet for a meal and good time.
Great Blessings
We were blessed by the generosity of the Sugar Creek Baptist Church and our Weekly Tuesday Bible Study transitioned to the Chapel of the Sugar Creek Baptist Church in Sugar Land, TX in January 2006. On July 18, 2006 our first Sunday worship service was held on Fathers Day in the home of Pastor O and Mrs. Nikita Holder.
Great Expectations
The Lord has moved and paved the way for our church services to be held at Lula Goodman Elementary School in Fresno, Texas. To prepare for this move, our new and revised church website launched in July. In order to begin building a relationship with the community, neighborhood visits in Teal Run and Winfield Estates communities will commence in July 2006. Our first Back to School Celebration and Inaugural Sunday Worship Service will be held at Lula Goodman Elementary in Fresno, Texas on August 19 and 20, 2006. We have much work to do, but we have Great Expectations for what God is going to do in and through His ministry.
